Several years ago, I was sitting on my patio, listening to the wind in the poplar trees, enjoying the birds calling in the green belt, and reflecting on how all creation is linked in a web of life. The thought came to me “If all of creation is a web, does that mean God is like a spider?” Suddenly, I had a sense of the presence of another Being. I turned my head, and there, right at eye level, was a tiny spider dangling from a filament. I had to ask , “Lord, is it You?”
God speaks to us in small and unexpected ways, even through spiders.

You’ve hit on something I’ve thought about before. Sometimes I wish God hadn’t given me freedom of choice, because I so often make choices I’m later sorry for. But like you, I came to realize that if I loved God just because the game was rigged that way, and not because of my choosing to love God; well, that wouldn’t be true love. Real love can only exist when we have a choice.
